In January 2018 we held a series of FitSpirit formation days. With our regional coordinators as well as Steeve Ager, FitSpirit Director of Programs and Operations, and Geneviève Leduc, Advisor of Programs and Evaluation, FitSpirit visited Gatineau, Drummondville, Laval, Quebec City, and Toronto to discuss the obstacles girls face to enjoy being physically active, and identify solutions to help them rediscover the joys of regular exercise.
The formation days attracted around one hundred FitSpirit program leaders who shared a memorable time of reflection, dialogue—and of course physical exercise! They were joined by 60 student leaders for a workshop offered jointly with Égale Action to develop participant’s leadership skills, self-confidence, and capacity to organize physical activities at their schools. Also in attendance were twenty community and recreation partners, on hand to develop a better understanding of issues around physical activity for girls and see how their organizations can work in concert with FitSpirit to offer top notch sports and leisure activities. Together, we enjoyed stimulating discussions and everyone developed an enhanced capacity to support young girls throughout their journey to adopting more active, healthy lifestyles.
FitSpirit would like to thank Égale Action for their much-appreciated collaboration at these training sessions.
